Installing the Ramanuja App on Android

A complete walkthrough for the APK release, from download to uninstall.

Release: 1.7.0-android.1 · Android 8.0 (Oreo) or later · file Ramanuja.apk (2.6 MB). This release is a debug build; see the release notes.

Step-by-step installation

  1. Check the supported Android version

The app requires Android 8.0 (Oreo) or later (minimum SDK 26). You can check your version in Settings → About phone → Android version. On older versions the app will not install.

  2. Download the APK

Open the Downloads page and choose Download APK under Android, or download Ramanuja.apk directly. The file is about 2.6 MB. Note the SHA-256 checksum shown, and see download verification if you want to confirm the file.

  3. Find the downloaded file

Your browser usually saves it to the Downloads folder and shows a notification. If you cannot find it, open your browser's download list, or use Files → Downloads. The file is named Ramanuja.apk.

  4. Install the APK

Tap the downloaded file. Android shows a preview and an Install button. Tap Install. Installation takes a few seconds.

  5. If Android blocks the install

Android protects you from installing apps from unknown sources. If you see a prompt, choose Settings on the prompt and allow installation for the app you are installing from (for example Chrome or Files) under Install unknown apps. Allow it only for that app, and only for as long as you need. Do not disable security protections globally. After installation you may switch the permission back off.

  6. Launch the app

Open the app drawer and tap Ramanuja. You will see the Sri Ramanuja landing page; tap Enter Library to open the menu.

  7. If installation fails

Common causes are insufficient storage, a partial download, or Android version below 8.0. Re-download the file, confirm the checksum, free some space, and try again. If the error says the app is incompatible, your Android version is too old. More in troubleshooting.

  8. Update to a newer release

Download the newer APK and install it over the existing app. Because the package id is unchanged, Android upgrades it in place and your app data is preserved. You do not need to uninstall first.

  9. Uninstall the app

Long-press the Ramanuja icon and choose Uninstall, or go to Settings → Apps → Ramanuja → Uninstall.
