Frequently Asked Questions

Short answers about the app, its content, permissions and updates.

Is the app free? Do I need an account?

The app is provided for reading and study. There is no account, no sign-in and no server requirement: once installed, it works offline.

Which works are included?

Śrībhāṣya, Gitābhāṣya with Tātparyacandrikā, Gītārthasaṅgraharakṣā and the Quotations key, together with an Ontology Explorer. Search covers 1,439 passages across the bundled works.

Does it work offline?

Yes. Reading, navigation and search work with no network connection. The only optional network use is (a) the one-time WebView2 runtime install on Windows, and (b) Android voice input, which sends audio to the device's speech provider when online.

Why does the Android app ask for the microphone?

The microphone permission (RECORD_AUDIO) is used only by the optional voice input button. Reading and search never use it. If you do not use voice input, you can deny the permission and everything else still works.

Is the app available for iOS or macOS?

Not at present. The released platforms are Android and Windows. Other platforms are listed under future work and are not yet available.

Why is the Android release a debug build?

The current APK is the project's released artifact and is built as a debug build. This is disclosed here and in the release notes so that the download is described accurately. It installs and runs normally on Android 8.0 and later.

How do I update to a newer version?

Download the newer APK (Android) or installer (Windows) and install it over the current version. The package id is unchanged, so it upgrades in place.

Is the Sanskrit content complete?

No complete-coverage claim is made. Verse-level coverage of Gitābhāṣya / Gītārthasaṅgraharakṣā is partial because the source is raw OCR, and the Ontology Explorer is a reviewed vertical slice, not a corpus-complete ontology. These limitations are stated in the release notes.

How do I verify that my download is genuine?

Compare the file's SHA-256 checksum with the value published on the download verification page. If it does not match, delete the file and download it again.

I found a problem. How do I report it?

See the contact page for the email address and the details to include.
